From April through October, poolside is where the daytime action is in Las Vegas. Before you decide where to stay in the "entertainment capital of the world", check out some of the hottest pools to cool down in. You also might find someone ready to warm up to you at one of these spots where the party never stops.
Many of these are exclusive to hotel guests only, so choose wisely.
Tao Beach and other pools at the Venetian Gardens
Tao Beach is the newest of the series of pools which await you on the fourth floor of the tower of the Venetian Resort and Casino complex. Monday through Friday topless sunbathing is the rule.
Saturday night you may want a break from the tables when the Tao beach pool here lights up with floating Chinese paper lanterns to loosen up the atmosphere (as if anyone could possibly be up tight in this complex of party pools). The newer Tao Beach pool is in the far west corner removed from the other pools in order guarantee its exclusive nature.
If it's music at sunset you seek, then Sunday is definitely the time to come back out to the Tao Beach pool in the late afternoon. Friday parties at Tao Beach are also accompanied by DJ jamming throughout the day.
In all, the Venetian Gardens at this resort cover five acres. Three standard pools are no deeper than 4 feet. A fourth pool is even more shallow to allow for lounging out in lounge chairs with much of your body submerged. And what would the place be without a hot tub and outdoor jacuzzi.
Some guests have complained about the shallow pools. That doesn't keep celebrities and athletes, including Jessica Simpson and Michael Jordan, from coming back again and again to enjoy the exclusive party here 7 months of the year.
All Venetian resort guests are allowed to use the pools including Tao Beach as long as they do not disturb the sought after 50/50 guy to girl balance the hotel seeks. Guests of the Cabanas and daybed renters are not subject to the gender balance ratio.
The Lagoon Pool, the Garden Pool and outdoor jacuzzis in the Gardens are open 24 hours. The main pool which is in the custody of lifeguards is open from 9 AM to 6 PM. Tao Beach pool is open for bathing exclusively on weekends from 10:30AM-6PM on Friday and Saturday and from 10AM to 5PM Sunday. It is also open weekend nights during Tao Nightclub operating hours.
Accommodations: The 7 cabanas at Tao Beach comfortably lodge as many as 6 guests each. All of the amenities you would expect can be found including a fan and air conditioning. There's even heating just in case it cools down too much for you on Spring or fall nights. A 32" television and DVD player are included but frankly most guests want to put better use to the spacious water beds in these accommodations. A hostess/concierge will make sure your needs are attended to during your stay.
The gardens and accommodations are accessible to the differently-abled.
Hard Rock Hotel Beach Club and Rehab Party
Two pools with sandy beaches and 4 hot tubs await in this elegant tropically themed hot spot. Looking to gamble without getting dry? There are swim-up blackjack tables available. Music is piped in underwater so you feel the vibration as you swim or lounge in the water.
But it is Sunday when the club becomes the Rehab dance club all day long. A dance floor is built in on site. Celebrities turn out regularly among the thousands of people habitually found at Rehab. Live music is also playing here on Fridays. Non-guests are admitted for a $20 entrance fee.
Accommodations: There are 36 cabanas on the site made of bamboo with thatched roofs. Daybeds are also available although at least 24 hour reservations are advisable. These grass and bamboo shacks come complete with amenities such as a phone, refrigerator and a misting system. They tend to book quickly, so be sure to make your reservations well in advance. Cabanas are available seasonally. Televisions, cooling misters and a host/concierge are among amenities.
The Beach Club is not accessible to the differently abled.
MGM Grand Pool Complex
Five pools and 3 hot tubs provide the heart of daylife at the MGM Grand pool complex known also as Wet Republic. Bridges, fountains and waterfalls provide tropical-themed surroundings but the crown jewel is the 53,000 sq. ft. "Producers Pool," often referred to as the ultra pool in reviews and write ups.
Two of the pools are salt water and all are naturally named in relation to the film industry. Top bill entertainers often perform on Sundays. At least one pool and hot tub are open as early as February and closing isn't until November. Topless bathing is not allowed here.
Wet Republic has its fill of bars and a ping pong table. Regular hours in the main pool months, April through September, are 7 AM to 6 PM.
Accommodations: Throughout the Complex there are 30 cabanas. Amenities include pool rafts or inner tubes, a private patio and misters, television and room service. Daybeds are also available for rental.
The Wet Republic is accessible to the differently abled.
The Mirage Pool Bare
The Mirage is home to 2 pools and 3 hot tubs. The exclusive adult party pool is Bare. Its tropical ambiance is topless friendly. DJ music is a constant as are cooling drinks and even hand misters and ice towels to keep guests chilling.
The bad news is, as a male, you will be charged $20 admission on Monday-Thursday and $40 admission Friday-Sunday. The good news is the ladies enter free of charge. Only hotel guests can enjoy this VIP party pool experience.
Day Cabanas, daybeds and boatbeds are available. Renters receive pitchers of Sangria, Bloody, Marys and Mojitos along with other amenities. Poolside accommodations are not available.
Specialty cocktails, frozen fruit and frozen drinks are among the complimentary coolants provided poolside.
Hours vary throughout the year. From June- August Bare is open from 7AM-8PM. This area is usually closed in December for maintenance.
The Bare is accessible to the differently abled.
The Palms Pool & Bungalows
Three pools and 1 hot tub await at the Palms Pool & Bungalows. A small glass bottom pool gives a novel view to patrons at the bar located below the transparent floor. There is also a small wading pool and one large pool and blackjack tables. As many as 3,000 guests join the fun for live concerts and daytime DJ spinning.
Cabanas with televisions, fans and refrigerators are available for daytime use. The pool area is open from 9AM to 5PM seasonally. On weekends it is open exclusively to guests.
The area usually closes for maintenance in December.
Accommodations: Two story luxury bungalows can be rented poolside, fitting as many as 40 people for a party. There is a fantastic view of the staging area from the bungalows during performances. Each bungalow has a jacuzzi.
Ramps are provided to allow for accessibility to the differently abled.
