Open Bar: The Perfect Cocktail

Summer's over! That means it's the perfect time to work on your fall/winter cocktail menu. On the rocks, blended, or straight up—check out the five cocktails you should be drinking now.

Caiphirinha

A refreshing libation with strong Afro Brazilian Roots.

Ingredients

  • ½ lime, quartered
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • Ice (crushed or small cubes)
  • 2 ounces cachaca or rum

The Prep: Juice limes into a cocktail glass and drop in limes. Add sugar then gently muddle the limes. Drop in ice cubes, pour cachaca over ice, and stir.

The Americano

The original drink of Bond…James Bond.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 ounces Campari
  • 1.5 ounces sweet vermouth
  • Club soda
  • Twist of orange or lemon peel

The Prep: Add ice to the brim of a Collins glass. Pour in Campari and vermouth, and then top with club soda. Stir. Garnish with a twist of orange peel.

Vodka Martini with Picholine olive

A twist on the classic vodka martini.

Ingredients

  • 1½ oz well-chilled vodka (premium)
  • 1 picholine olive

The Prep; Fill a martini glass with ice. Pour vodka into a steel shaker with ice. Shake briefly to chill. Throw away the ice in the martini glass and strain in the vodka. Garnish with picholine olive. Serve as cold as possible.

Whiskey Sour

There’s nothing quite so refreshing as a Whiskey Sour and, hey, even the name sounds manly.

Ingredients

  • 1½ oz. whiskey (top shelf)
  • ½ oz lemon juice
  • ½ tsp powdered sugar
  • 1 maraschino cherry

The Prep: Fill a tumbler with ice and add whiskey, lemon juice and sugar. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Gin and Tonic

A clean and classic favorite

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. gin
  • 4 oz. tonic
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 4 ice cubes

The Prep: Place the ice cubes in a tall, narrow glass with the ice (filling near the top). Pour gin, tonic and lime juice over the ice. Stir well with a long-necked spoon. Garnish with lime wedge. Serve immediately.
