Nelson George takes us back to the 90's renaissance in Brooklyn Boheme, a historical documentary about the progressive Brooklyn neighborhood of Fort Greene.
Directors Diana Paragas and Nelson George give a time capsule view of the tightly knight Black bohemian community of the eighties and nineties. The documentary gives a first hand account of the vibrant artistic community that included Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Branford Marsalis, Rosie Perez, Saul Williams and other creatives. Narrated and written by George, a twenty-five year resident of the area, the film celebrates "Brooklyn's equivalent of the Harlem Renaissance" and follows the rise of a new kind of African American artist, the Brooklyn Boheme.
